Friday, October 12th
Create a Beaded Kumihimo Bracelet with artisan Laurie Poirier
6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Harvey Room, 2nd floor
Each student will create and get to take home a beaded Kumihimo woven bracelet. Using a simple loom you will be able to learn how to do a Kumihimo weave that can be done over and over in different colours and styles. Looms will be available for purchase for $3 extra, but are free to use in class!
Cost: $25 for the class and all supplies. Laurie will have enough looms for people to use in class and will charge $3 if they wish to keep the loom or extra kits available for $10.

Your instructor for this workshop Laurie Poirier is a Toronto Artisan who has been crafting in various forms since childhood. As an adult, she began teaching paper crafting and through that found her passion for teaching jewelry to all ages. Laurie has taught children in schools to seniors in Church groups. Her classes range from Jewelry 101 to more advanced Chainmaille and Wire working. Laurie has been selling at craft shows for the past eight years and teaching for the past six years at Michael’s, John Bead Outlet, Gem Expo, Craftandian and her own private home studio. Create a Felted Cowl or Neck-Warmer with fibre artist Valerie Scovill
6:00 to 10:00 pm in the Founders Room, Ravine level
Participants in this workshop will learn the basics of felting, using soft merino fibre, a bit of soap and water, and some “elbow grease” in order to create a one-of-a-kind felted piece of wearable art, which will keep them warm throughout the winter. All supplies and tools will be provided. Please bring a towel and a plastic bag.
Cost: $35 for the class and supplies. If you decide that felting is for you, you will be able to purchase a felting kit for $12 to take home with you. Extra fibre can also be purchased by weight.

Your instructor for the workshop is Valerie Scovill, who touches every piece of fabric that she comes close to because she loves the feel of natural fibres, such as wool, silk, cotton and linen. She is a hat-maker, and particularly loves to up-cycle sweaters and linens into other items, such as hats, scarves, gloves, pillow covers, shawls, and any other ideas that come to mind. Christmas Card Making with paper artist Megan Munro
7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Harvey Room, 2nd floor
Participants will make 6 Christmas cards using rubber stamping, die cutting and other paper crafting techniques. No experience or creativity is required!
Cost: $20 All supplies are included in the workshop fee.

Swansea Town Hall plans to sponsor workshops here once a month on a variety of craft themes starting in the fall of 2018 and running until the spring of 2019. You are invited to submit a proposal to be one of our 6 unique Craft Workshop Leaders at Swansea Town Hall for this series.
Each leader will offer one workshop between September 2018 and June 2019. In return for your $25 donation to the Swansea Town Hall Program Development Fund, we will provide you with space at no charge to hold your workshop for up to 4 hours on a designated Friday evening. The 4 hours will include set up, tear down and workshop time but can be structured as you wish. We will jointly promote the workshop with you and you will be responsible for obtaining and handling all the registrations and payments.
Ideally, participants in your workshop will be able to make-and-take the craft item you are teaching home on the night of your event. To make your workshop accessible to the community, we ask that you offer registration prices at a discount to your normal rates. All participants in your workshop must be 18 years of age or older.
Each workshop leader chosen will be required to sign this agreement with us covering use of the space and terms and conditions.
